This is the smallest of the Japanese "spitz" breeds
The Shiba Inu is native to Japan, originally bred to hunt in mountainous areas where there is dense undergrowth. Shibas are now Japan’s most popular companion dog breed, and have been declared a national treasure for helping rescue workers find their owners, trapped under the rubble of a natural disaster. While a shiba always remains a bit independent and may not always be quick to obey, they are loyal and make a good medium size watchdog, staying under 25 pounds.
