The "aussie" is not originally from Australia, as you might think!

It is thought that this breed has a 3-stage development, first in the Basque country in northern Spain and southwestern France… next in Australia where some Basque settled with their sheep and sheepdogs… finally in the western United States, where these same peoples relocated and further developed the breed.
