I adore finding the early spring flowers of Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus) hiding in the wetlands, even feeling a bit of a nostalgic bond for this species. I have honestly never SMELLED it, so why should I be limited by the name “haters” give it? LOL. 😉
While I do use the name Skunk Cabbage to more easily let others know to which species I am referring, the common name I prefer is The Humble Plant. 😀
[BTW, have you ever tried to DRAW the various shapes of The Humble Plant’s flowers?!]
WHERE are you MOST likely to see this bird?
Besides nest building materials, what are you MOST likely to see in this species’ beak?
Select three things this species is known for:
Find TWO of this species close relatives — in the same family, Turdidae.
Were you already familiar with this species? Have you seen it “in the wild”? Do you THINK you might have seen it, but aren’t sure? If you (might) have seen it, how many were there? Where were you? What were the birds doing? What else did you observe?
