This fluffy all-white northern breed was developed for herding reindeer in Siberia
The samoyed is a hearty northern spitz-type breed, so well adapted to the cold that even its famous black-lipped “smile” keeps it warm — the naturally upturned corners of the mouth keep it from drooling, preventing icicles from forming! :D The name comes from a group of people living in Siberia who developed the breed for herding reindeer. However, the American Kennel Club (AKC) puts this breed not in the Herding, but in the Working Group.
