Blockhouse

This self-defining military structure is like a fort that (usually) sits on top of a hill or on a ridge, typically of square design with the top floor just a bit larger than the bottom floor. Pinholes are often found at intervals in the top floor, to allow gunmen to fire at attacking enemies from all sides. The blockhouse most commonly sits isolated on the landscape, not as part of a walled fort.
